This design allows system water to contact the vessel's interior, causing corrosion. Spirotech expansion vessels use a balloon-shaped membrane that fully encloses the system water, preventing contact with the vessel's steel wall and thus avoiding corrosion. The pocket membrane absorbs the volume change of the system water when heated.
